Continuance

To postpone a court appearance to a later date.


Final Documents / Final Orders

Documents signed by a judge or commissioner that finish the court process.


Motion

A formal written request made to the judge or commissioner that asks the court for something or asks that the court do something.


Order

A written decision by a judge or commissioner that instructs one or both parties to act in a specific manner.


Petition

A formal application made to the court in writing that requests action on a certain matter.


Response

The written answer to a petition.


Summons

A document sent by the court to the parties involved in a case telling them that they are involved in a legal matter (the legal matter is listed).


Temporary Documents / Temporary Orders

A written decision by a commissioner or judge that instructs parties how to behave pending the final outcome in a case.
