Municipal Court

Municipal court is the lowest court in the county court system. This court hears violations of municipal or city ordinances. This means that matters can only be heard in Municipal Court if the infraction occurred within the boundaries of municipality (in city limits). Municipal Court only hears criminal matters.

Municipal Court in Spokane County is held on the second floor of the Annex.

Municipal Court Hears:


Criminal Misdemeanors

Both standard and gross misdemeanors are heard in Municipal Court.

Examples:

  • Disorderly conduct

  • No valid driver’s license

  • DUI

Civil Infractions

Civil infractions are violations of the law that carry a penalty or fine but are not punishable by jail time.

Examples:

  • Speeding

  • Parking violations

  • Defective equipment (headlights not working)
